The role of the Fathers of the Church in the life and the faith of the Church cannot be denied. Contemporary theology draws much from patristic sources and inspiration. This course will cover three main topics: the period preceding and up to the First Council of Nicaea; the influence of Greek philosophy and the beginnings of the Latin school; the golden age of the Fathers from Nicaea I to Chalcedon. The writings of selected Fathers will be studied.
