Getting to know our Board Members

Dr. Kenneth Ho, Chairman of the CTIS Board

Dr. Kenneth Ho served in the CTIS Board of Management and the CTIS-SFXMS Academic Board since the inception of CTIS in 2013.  He stepped up to the role of Chairman of the CTIS Board in July 2024.  He is also an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd.  Dr. Ho read Economics at the University of Michigan and the University of London.  He was an economist for DBS Bank and the U.S. Embassy, and he taught for several universities, including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he was Adjunct Professor in the Singapore campus, and more recently, the State University of New York (Buffalo).  In 2022, he was conferred a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from the Graduate Theological Foundation in the United States for his research on the role of cultural factors and cultural intelligence (CQ) in education, and for developing a multi-cultural pedagogy for undergraduate Economics classes.  Dr. Ho is also an education consultant, representing mainly U.S. universities, particularly Catholic universities, in Asia-Pacific markets.

Mr Derrick Chee 

Derrick Chee brings a wealth of experience from the property development and investment industry, complemented by a strong academic background in both business and the humanities. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Psychology, and has completed formal studies in theology, scripture, and philosophy at St Francis Xavier Major Seminary.

Beyond his professional work, Derrick is deeply involved in Church life. He currently serves in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement, sits on the board of the Catholic Foundation, and contributes his musical gifts as a choir member. His diverse expertise and deep faith continue to enrich his service on the CTIS Management Board.

Mr Gerard KC Hooi, PBM 

 

 

Gerard is currently a Managing Director, Senior Adviser and Independent Director in various companies in Singapore.  Other than his professional involvement, Gerard is also a Board member of the Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore and is also the current Chairman of the CTIS Alumni Association (CTISAA).  

 

Gerard was also a Board Member, Trustee and Treasurer (of The Migrant Fund) of the Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants & Itinerant People (ACMI). He was also the President and Exco Member of the St. Michael’s School Alumni Association (SMSAA), a heritage of St. Joseph’s Institution Junior and Exco Member of the St. Joseph’s Institution Old Boys Association (SJIOBA). 

 

Gerard graduated from Indiana State University (USA) with a BSc. (Hons) in Political Science with concentrations in International Relations and Public Policy. He was also a graduate of the University’s Graduate Honours Programme.  

 

Gerard was awarded both the Certificate and Diploma in Theology from the Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore.  He also obtained the Core Theology Certificate from the Augustine Institute (USA).  Prior to his formal studies in Theology, Gerard attended scripture classes in the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for eight years.

 

Gerard is a parishioner of the Church of St. Ignatius. He is currently a catechist in both the Church of St. Bernadette (for the RCIA) and also in the Church of The Transfiguration (for Infant Baptism).
